Jaw Implant Surgery
All
faces are unique, but some people believe that their
faces are less than perfect. No one’s features
can be ideal, but with help of cosmetic surgeries, we
can make improvements. One such surgery is Jaw Implant
Surgery. Jaw implants can add width to a face that seems
long and straight. It can make jaws look stronger and
more defined. Many men are using this surgery to improve
their facial features by making their jaw more distinguished
and masculine.
The Procedure
Jaw implant surgery requires implants being inserted
and placed along the jaw line. Surgeons often begin
the procedure by making incisions below the lower lip,
inside the mouth. These incisions are made internally
to cut down on the appearance of scars. Once the incisions
are made, the surgeon pulls back the skin, creating
a pocket for the implant. The implant is then slid through
the incision and positioned on the existing jaw line.
Once the implant is in place, the incisions will be
closed with sutures.
Will It Hurt?
Most surgeons use a local anesthetic combined with
sedatives for jaw implant surgery. This allows the area around
the jaw, mouth and cheeks to be numbed, yet the patient
remains awake. When patients are under a local anesthetic
they can experience tugging feelings as well as a bit
of discomfort so some surgeons do prefer to use a general
anesthetic. This allows the patient to sleep through
the procedure. Once the anesthetic wears off, patients
will experience moderate pain but this can be controlled
with pain medication.
What Results Can I Expect?
Jaw implant surgery can take anywhere from one to two
hours. This is an outpatient procedure so patients can
return home the same day. Patients will experience moderate
pain, numbness, swelling and bruising for the first
several days after the surgery. All of these effects
should be significantly reduced after the first week.
Directly following the surgery, patients will also
find it very hard to smile, talk, chew and move their
mouth in any way. Diet and activity will be very limited
directly after the procedure. After about ten days the
sutures will either dissolve or be taken out. After
about two weeks, patients should feel pretty much back
to normal, however, minor swelling could prolong the
patients final results for several months. Once the
swelling is gone, patients will see a more defined jaw
line which can enhance the patients overall facial contours
and features.
Costs?
Jaw implant Surgery can cost anywhere from $1,500
to $6,000. These prices vary depending on the location
of the patient and the doctor that performs the procedure.
Cost may also differ if the surgery is combined with
other cosmetic procedures. Patients can greatly benefit
from this procedure because it can permanently change
the contours of your face and provide a defined jaw
line that will make your face look phenomenal.
